America’s Libyan Assassination Program

Last week’s prison break in Benghazi is just the latest indicator that Libya, and Benghazi in particular, is sliding deeper into chaos and sectarian violence. Between the prison breaks, riots, bombings, and shootings, there is something else that has gone overlooked. While much of the violence appears to be tribal in nature (with Libya roughly divided into three regions, East, West, and South), or conflict between the moderates and Islamists, or even a liquidation of Gaddafi era officials, there is also another player on the scene. One that is keeping a much lower profile.

Our first indication that something was up came in the aftermath of the attack on the U.S. consulate and CIA annex in Benghazi on 9/11/12. The details of the attack itself are laid out in Benghazi: The Definitive Report, which I wrote with Brandon Webb. But here is an additional piece of information not in the book. When Ambassador Chris Stevens was lost in the smoke caused by a fire lit by the Ansar Al-Sharia militia, a Diplomatic Security Service member made several valiant attempts to go back into the fire to find him. Eventually, he had to break off his search due to smoke inhalation. The last time I inquired about this individual, I was told that he was still in the hospital due to the smoke inhalation he suffered. Ty Woods then arrived at the annex with his Global Response Staff element and they fought off Ansar Al-Sharia, recovered the remains of Sean Smith, and saved the other Americans. But Stevens was nowhere to be found and Ty’s element had to retreat back to the annex with the other Americans.

Colombian TV New Appearance

My appearance on a Colombian news show! By far one of the stranger experiences I’ve had. Picture this: I’m in a room by myself in NYC looking at a remote controlled camera with an ear piece in connected to a smart phone which a producer somewhere in Colombia is asking me questions through. I then have to look straight into the camera and answer like someone is there! I wore a nice black shirt but had to take it off because it was blending into the background. So instead you get to check out my way cool Ghost in the Shell anime t-shirt and Sumerian seal tattoo!

Three Letter Agency Crack Down on Benghazi: The Definitive Report

Just a quick but important update about the new ebook that Brandon and I released this week.  Benghazi: The Definitive report has made quite a splash and I’ve been doing media for it all week with both myself and my co-author scheduled to do some television appearances starting on Monday.  We both believe in this book and stand by it.  We are also humbled by the tremendous support we’ve received from readers.  We have been covered by both the left and right wing media, we have received both praise and scorn from the left and right wing media.  I take this as a sign that we are doing something right.  The reality about what happened in Benghazi does not fit into some pre-packaged corporate political ideology.  The truth is not politically satisfying in anyway.

That said, I do want to comment on some of the grumbling going on behind the scenes.  A spokesmen for the National Security Council has said the claim made in the book that the US Government has been facilitating the trafficking of weapons from Libya to Syria is false, a complete fabrication.  The statement the NSC gave is technically correct but intrinsically wrong, that is the nature of plausible deniability.  They can issue a statement like this because technically they are not the ones trafficking the weapons, but they know all about it and have approved the process.  In regards to the JSOC operations that happened inside Libya, it has pretty much been radio silence aside from SOCOM making a statement that they don’t confirm or deny operations.

Meanwhile, in a certain Three Letter Agency, people are sharpening their knives.  We’ve seen the crackdown on whistleblowers during this administration but in this case there really isn’t anything they can do to me and my co-author.  We are out of the service now and are not writing about anything we did while we served.  We were not read into any of the projects or programs described in the ebook.  Hell, I never even held a Top Secret clearance.  I got out of the Army before the paperwork could finished to be processed.  Legally speaking, the spooks are out of luck.  There really isn’t anything they can do to us or our publisher as Benghazi: The Definitive Report falls under the category of journalism.

However, there is another avenue open to them: character assassination.  How do you go about doing this?  You could dig into our backgrounds using government databases, check out our military records, talk to some former team mates, that sort of thing.  I can’t really imagine what they could find on me…alcohol and women?  Big deal, welcome to the US Army folks!  But they can fabricate or exaggerate certain claims and then have a few retired analysts or case officers strut their stuff in the media and try to discredit what we wrote.  I’m not afraid of it, I just say, go ahead and mentally prepare for it now.

I am not trying to use scare tactics as some cheap gimmick to get people to go and buy my book, I don’t believe in that sort of thing.  What I will ask is for you to rally around this book if you support this type of reporting and this style of journalism.  It is a brave new world out there in publishing and in journalism, a libertarian wild west type of model, but maybe a better one then simply having four or five corporations who have consolidated the entire news media under their umbrella.  If you think it is important to hear from ordinary Americans, former Special Operations soldiers in this case, who do investigative work and then pass that information on to the public is a responsible manner, then please make your voice heard.

I’m writing this now to try to get ahead of the opposition’s decision making process and stay a few steps ahead of them.  If you support this book or this type of reporting then now is the time to say something.  Speak out against digital censorship and let people know that you want the unvarnished truth, not some PR spin from the corporate media.  Thanks for reading and thanks for your support!

Benghazi Preview

Read a preview of the ebook I co-authored with Brandon Webb about the Benghazi consulate attack and other events in Libya. The book can be pre-ordered on Amazon.

The deadly attack on the American consulate in Benghazi, Libya, symbolically coinciding with the eleventh anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, triggered in a confluence of events that spilled into US domestic politics, military covert operations, and a number of classified CIA programs. With the terrorist strike occurring in the run up the US Presidential election, it become a foregone conclusion that the truth of the attacks would be swept up and lost in political squabbling as both major parties jockeyed for position and get some cheap digs in on their opponents. Added to the media circus was the reality that various US government institutions and agencies did engage in a very real cover up: they responsibly tried to keep covert operations secret. But they also sought to limit political liability on the guilty parties whose negligence led to the attack in the first place.

Conservatives claimed that President Obama callously denied military reinforcements to American forces on the ground in Libya who were badly outnumbered and outgunned. The American right sought to portray Obama in the most negative light possible, accusing him of glossing over the attacks to compensate for foreign policy failures. The narrative went, “President Obama: not tough on terrorism and betrayer of US Navy SEALs.”

Liberals decried the Republican persecution, doing damage control by laying blame on forces beyond the administration’s control. According to this narrative, the Benghazi attack happened because of an irresponsible amateur film that defamed the Prophet Muhammad, inflaming the religious fervor of the Islamic world. Soon protests formed outside US embassies across the Middle East, and the series of events rapidly reached its bloody climax in the attack on the US consulate in Libya.

For their part, libertarians announced that the attacks were further proof that America had no business interfering in the affairs of foreign countries. Meanwhile, conspiracy theorists pointed towards a sinister plot by powerful dark forces to liquidate Ambassador Stevens. In fact, every party commenting or involved in the Benghazi affair seemed to refer to their opposition as conspiracy theorists in order to de-legitimize their position at some point.

This e-book intends to cut through the static and white noise generated by the media pundits, the partisan politics, and unfounded conspiracy theories. The truth does involve some conspiracy. After all, the major players were the CIA, Pentagon, Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC), and State Department – institutions synonymous with backroom politics, intelligence gathering, and covert operations. But this report points in directions and draws conclusions that have henceforth been completely neglected by both the mainstream and alternative media.

When it comes to the hidden world of terrorists, counter-terrorists, and spies, the truth usually is stranger than fiction. Because of this, many will find the facts unfolded in this e-book to be both uncomfortable and unsatisfying. Obama’s foes will see a picture emerge in which the President is far from a callous evil man. Those passionate supporters of the President will be angry to see Obama as aloof and rather ineffective as a leader. Both political parties will be disappointed to see that this story, the 9/11 Benghazi attack, really doesn’t involve the President all that much one way or the other.

Coming Soon: Benghazi E-Book by Jack Murphy and Brandon Webb

benghazi

Coming in early February is my non-fiction ebook which I co-wrote with Brandon Webb.  If you’ve been wondering why I haven’t been posting on SOFREP as much as usual, it is because of this project.  I spent months on this ebook.  I sifted through the stacks in the basements of Columbia, read through diplomatic cables that came out via Wikileaks, combed through white papers, and went back and researched relevant books to get the most complete picture on Benghazi and Libya.  Beyond that, I consulted with numerous sources on Benghazi who helped flesh out the big picture and what really happened that day.

It was a long, uphill battle in which many of my own assumptions about the attack on the US Consulate and the death of four Americans was called into question.  One of the deceased was in fact best friends with Brandon Webb and an acquaintance of mine.  For this reason alone, we felt compelled to get the most complete story.  Yes, the media lied to you, but maybe not in the ways that you think.

Brandon and I are both proud of this book and will be doing some press for it upon release.  Because this book questions assumptions and even includes on the ground accounts of what happened that night there will be a lot of controversy.  I know what kind of heat is coming.  When people have been caught up in a scam their natural reaction when that scam is revealed is to withdraw even deeper into the fraud.  It is a protective measure, no one wants to admit that they were wrong.

As I wrote in the prologue of the book, let the chips fall where they may.

Now available for pre-order.

Benghazi, Libya: The Inside Story Coming Soon

Brandon and I are grinding away at this ebook about Benghazi and are slowly making some progress.  It is a complicated topic that very quickly shoots out in a few dozen different directions.  I think today I’m going to write into it how General Petraeus figures into this mess, or rather, how he doesn’t.
